Three killed and 21,000 affected by cyclone Mandous in Sri Lanka
Cyclone Mandous has killed three people and affected over 21,000 people, according to Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Center (DMC). According to Bernama, 19 people were injured and 6,113 families in 16 districts were impacted. 5,639 homes were damaged throughout the island country. The DMC is assessing the damage, and those affected will be compensated, said Deputy Director Pradeep Kodippili. Mandous has decreased, but Sri Lankans should still take precautions, the DMC said.
The Mandous cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal has caused unusually cold weather in Sri Lanka’s northern province, killing hundreds of farm animals and sickening hundreds more. Nearly 350 cattle and 180 goats died in four districts including Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu and Vavuniya districts of the province after temperatures dropped below 20 degrees Celsius.
